Master of Arts in Sociological Practice Application

Dear Interested Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in our graduate program.

We are a 2 year full-time Masters of Arts in Sociology program, however many of our students take advantage of the part-time program. We call ourselves “Sociological Practice” because we encourage our graduate students to take real life social problems as the focus their research. Our program encourages community and civic engagement through research. Most faculty members contribute to and draw upon scholarship in critical Sociology.  All of our classes are in the evenings and a few are online.

Our graduate students go on to work human services and criminal justice agencies, non-profit or community groups, evaluation companies. Many of our graduates go on to teach at community colleges and several have successfully entered Ph.D. programs. The MASP program is not a social work program (MSW).

We encourage you to visit our website for more information and to explore our faculty members’ pages. You will also be able to learn about our application process and download an application from our website.

Our application will be open November 1 with a deadline of March 15. I will host an application workshop late January 2013 and also plan to make a video tutorial for the application; if you are unable to attend the in-person workshop, please visit our website for a link of the video tutorial in early February 2013.

The strengths of our department are close mentoring and a culturally diverse faculty.  We are committed to combining traditional sociological theory and research with sociology’s rich tradition of studying social problems.

Finally, the best way to reach me is through email. I welcome your questions. I hope you explore our program further and consider applying to our program if it seems like a good fit.

Cordially,
Marisol Clark-Ibáñez, Ph.D.
