Master of Arts in Sociological Practice Application
Dear Interested Applicant,
Thank you for your interest in our graduate program.
We are a 2 year full-time Masters of Arts in Sociology program, however many of our students take advantage of the part-time program. We call ourselves “Sociological Practice” because we encourage our graduate students to take real life social problems as the focus of their research. Our program encourages community and civic engagement through research. Most faculty members contribute to and draw upon scholarship in critical Sociology. All of our classes are in the evenings and a few are online.
Our graduate students go on to work with human services and criminal justice agencies, non-profit or community groups, and evaluation companies. Many of our graduates go on to teach at community colleges and several have successfully entered Ph.D. programs. The MASP program is not a social work program (MSW).
We encourage you to visit our website for more information and to explore our faculty members’ pages. You will also be able to learn about our application process and download an application from our website.
Our application will be open November 15 with a deadline of February 15. Please check back to this website for additional resources, including the announcement of an application workshop.
The strengths of our department are close mentoring and a culturally diverse faculty. We are committed to combining traditional sociological theory and research with sociology’s rich tradition of studying social problems.
Finally, the best way to reach me is through email. I welcome your questions. I hope you explore our program further and consider applying to our program if it seems like a good fit.
Application process closes on Feb 15th. Acceptances are for Fall semester only. You must have a 3.0 GPA to be considered for admission.
