                                               Statement on Language Diversity

In order to help the community understand the culturally diverse nature of our changing society and world, the faculty in the
World Languages and Hispanic Literatures Department currently offer courses in five languages: Arabic, French, German, Japanese
and Spanish. While we focus on the standard variety of each of these languages, students are also familiarized with the
different linguistic and cultural characteristics of the various regions where the languages are spoken, and we as faculty
value these differences. From basic language instruction to advanced graduate courses, we are committed to exposing our
students to the multicultural aspects of our global society.  This commitment to diversity is also represented by the
   multicultural composition of our facult
y.
