The STEM@CSUSM outreach efforts are designed to foster excitement and interest in STEM education among students, teachers, and parents in North County San Diego schools. Through partnerships with Palomar College and Camp Pendleton, the outreach programs also encourage community college students, veterans, and active duty military personnel to pursue STEM-related careers.
Under the guidance of CSUSM professors and staff, a team of highly-qualified undergraduate science and math majors, known as STEM Ambassadors, implements a wide range of outreach activities tailored to the specific needs of the intended audience. Currently, STEM@CSUSM partners with several North County schools as well as the CSUSM Early Outreach program and Upward Bound. In the fall of 2014, we also launched "Making" STEM Relevant in Underserved Communities, an after school program that engages middle and high school students in design-based, DIY activities.
