Ambassador Programs


I. Programs at School Site

Classroom Presentation (with or without demo)

  • Description: Includes optional short demonstration or activity on select science and math topics, presentations by one to three ambassadors, and Q & A session with students. Ambassadors typically dicsuss their majors, their research, and their career goals.
  • Length: Flexible. Typically 15-30 minutes for demo or short activity and up to 60 minutes for an activity and presentation.
  • Number of Participants: Single classroom. (Some demos can be modified for larger audiences.)

Demos & Activities

STEM Cafe

  • Description: Includes teams of three to five ambassadors to engage students in informal conversations about CSUSM science/math programs, research opportunities, career plans, etc. These sessions are designed to encourage student discussion and generate interest in science and math careers.
  • Length: Flexible. Typically 30 minutes.
  • Number of Participants: 30 maximum

Table at College/Career Fair or Other Event

  • Description: Includes one to three ambassadors to talk with students, parents, etc. about CSUSM science and math porgrams. Ambassadors will bring literature, demos, and giveaways as applicable.
  • Length: Flexible. Typically one to three hours.
  • Number of Participants: Flexible

II. Programs at CSUSM

STEM-Related Campus Tour

  • Description: includes an ambassador-led tour of CSUSM research labs and a discussion of research and careers.
  • Length: Flexibile. Typically 60 minutes. Can be combined with a hands-on activity to extend to two hours. (See below.)
  • Number of Participants: 36 maximum

STEM-Related Hands-on Activity

  • Description: Includes a hands-on activity or lab led by CSUSM professor and/or ambassadors. Activities available in physics, biology, chemistry, and math.
  • Length: Flexible. Typically 60 minutes. Can be combined with a campus tour to extend to two hours. (See above.)
  • Number of Participants: 36 maximum
