Sixty percent of students at Cal State San Marcos receive financial assistance and over thirty-five percent of active financial aid applicants have income levels well below the federal poverty line. It is unfortunate that many students find the term "starving student" to be a reality.
The Student Emergency Fund, kicked off by the 2012 Senior Gift Campaign and through the matching gift of generous donors, was created to provide compassionate assistance to students who encounter unforeseen financial emergencies or catastrophic events in which their basic needs (i.e. food, shelter, hygiene, clothes, supplies, books, transportation, safety, etc, ) to function as a student are impacted. The fund, managed by CSUSM's Associated Students Inc., is intended to provide emergency assistance while the student simultaneously works to obtain long term assistance from campus and/or community resources.
With the support of generous donors, CSUSM seeks to assist needy students annually through the fund.
