Professional Development Program Summary

The Student Affairs Professional Development Program is a reflection of the Division’s philosophy that our employees are our most valuable resource and investing in their ongoing professional development is the key to maintaining excellence in student services delivery.

The program has three main components:

  • A curriculum for staff and managers that address twelve core subject areas* in which all Student Affairs professionals should have basic competency. Developmental opportunities will be offered through a variety of methods. For more information about each Professional Development program please use the appropriate link below:
  • A one day seminar for MPPs focused on supervision, coaching, and mentoring to ensure managers have the tools to assist employees with their personal professional development plan.
  • The annual Student Affairs Day of Development conference which builds a shared understanding of an important topic across the division as well as providing opportunities for personal development in areas not included in the professional competencies curriculum, such as stress reduction, work-life balance, or retirement planning.

The Professional Development Program is being phased in over the next year and staff participation is highly encouraged, but not mandatory.
