The 22-mile light train moves many of our students to and from campus. Many people ride the Sprinter to and from their school or workplace. Every weekday, about 10,000 people ride the Sprinter. That saves a lot of gas that would otherwise be used by cars and trucks on the hihgways.
One of the Sprinter stations is on CSUSM. Have you ever ridden it?
- The rail cars are attached together with engines and controls at both ends. That way the train doesn't have to turn around to go back the other way. The driver just gets out, walks to the other end of the train, and gets in the car, and goes to the driver's compartment and starts driving!
- The windows are big and you can sit facing either forward or backward, whichever you like!
- The train runs up to the platform (the place where you get on and off) so closely that you can't even see a gap between the platform and the train!
- The doors won't open until the train is completely stopped
