Chapter   13 Structure Determination: Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy

The following are items that you need to know for Exam V:

13CNMR   d = chemical shift in ppm downfield from TMS

off -resonance
s (C)
d (CH)
t (CH2)
q (CH3)

decoupled spectra all are singlets for all nonequivalent C's

DEPT-90 spectrum shows only CH carbons

DEPT-135 spectrum shows CH and CH3 carbons as positive signals and
CH2 carbons as negative signals

1HNMR   d = chemical shift downfield from TMS

Integration of NMR peaks: Area = number of protons

Spin-Spin Splitting : J = coupling constant

N+1 Rule: s, d, t, q
