Common Read

"Student development can occur when readings (and the associated curriculum) prompt students to question their beliefs, explore their feelings, build a sense of community, and relate their emotions to others" - Sandi G Nadelson & Louis S. Nadelson

Common read programs focus aim to increase student engagement and community by having students engage in a common educational experience. The exploration of a common reading and the associated curriculum/activities by students help to create a meaningful educational experience. Each year CSUSM library chooses one book for the academic community to engage each academic year. Along with choosing the reading, the CSUSM Library also provides resources and puts on events to help faculty facilitate student learning. First-Year Programs as well as other courses and professors often embrace the common read.
