Background Information

In September 2007, Temecula civic and business leaders approached California State University San Marcos with a request for a campus location in Temecula. Local business leaders secured a lease-free facility for educational programs. A local hospital provided funding for nursing education. A unique public/private partnership was formed. In August 2008, California State University San Marcos at Temecula opened.

Demand for the campus was so strong that in August 2010 CSUSM at Temecula relocated to its current location, the site of a former elementary school. The Temecula Unified School District provides the facility at $1 per year lease for 10 years. The City of Temecula approved a $3 million redevelopment grant and the City of Murrietta approved a $200,000 redevelopment grant to fund the renovations and ongoing development of CSUSM at Temecula. CSUSM at Temecula is operated without state funds.

Programs currently offered at CSUSM Temecula include nursing, kinesiology, and human resources management.

This public/private collaboration represents the power of a shared vision and the motivation of many people who are eager to continue to transform a region with opportunities for public higher education.
