Are you looking for something fun to do this weekend? Look no further than Nu Alpha Kappa's (NAK) Second Annual Drag Show!

This year the Drag Show will be featured as a signature Friday night event on Oct. 2 at 8 p.m. in the USU Ballroom, and will serve as an exciting kick-start to National Diversity Month.

"The Drag Show is an event where we highlight LGBT culture and provide a safe and secure environment for those want to practice drag—our 13 contestants,” said Hunter Chanove, NAK vice president. “It is also a safe place for students to learn more about the culture of drag itself.”

Hunter also said that all contestants are required to complete SafeZone training before they are able to compete because the Drag Show is about much more than people simply swapping their gender preferred clothing.

"The true message of this event is that we want people to be true to themselves,” he said. “We want people to embrace who they are and not be afraid of the judgement of others. This message can be applied, not just on a LGBT level but on a societal level too."

The NAK Drag Show also serves as an important fundraising opportunity for their philanthropy event, NAKLAND. Last year, the group raised over $3,000 and are aiming for $6,000 this time around.

"NAKLAND is a free children’s’ carnival that takes place right here at CSUSM and helps promote the goal of higher education for children through games, entertainment and prizes,” said Hunter. “There are also educational booths for parents to learn about all the different opportunities that can be taken advantage of in order to send their children to college."

Students, faculty and staff are all welcome to attend this amazing event! Tickets are being sold for $10 and all proceeds will go towards NAKLAND. The event will officially begin at 8 p.m. but you can also stop by early to participate in educational tabling at 7 p.m.

"Expect to experience something different, something raw, and something fierce, because that's what NAK and all of our wonderful contestants have in store for you on Friday," said Hunter.
