By Jasmine Demers, Tukwut Life Marketing Assistant

The fall 2015 semester is coming to a close and we are celebrating by remembering these unforgettable Tukwut Life moments.

Tukwut Life, the Cal State San Marcos student life experience, made its official debut at the start of the semester and began to take the campus by storm. Thanks to campus partners and all of the amazing CSUSM students, Tukwut Life sponsored a total of 14 signature Friday night events, which attracted over 2,600 students. The initiative will continue to build community and enhance student pride and traditions at CSUSM.

casino night

Casino Night, held on September 4 and hosted by USUAB, was the very first Tukwut Life event and it finished off the first week of classes with a bang. This event, was themed ‘Paris After Dark’ and included the casino games bingo, blackjack and roulette where students could earn prizes. Casino Night attracted many first-year students who got a taste of campus nightlife during their first week of college.

Another highlight of the semester was Ultimate Cougar hosted by ASI. Over 400 students came to this event on Sept. 11 to  race through the obstacle course, joust with their fellow Cougars and play giant, life-sized games such as Jenga and Connect Four. Students also gathered on the USU lawn to play Capture the Flag while others lined up to get some fresh ink from a local Henna artist.

At the Lip Sync Competition, hosted by SLL on September 18, students came and performed their favorite hits in front of a live audience. Similar to LL Cool J’s “Lip Sync Battle”, students took to the stage to belt out Spice Girls, Andy Grammer, Demi Lovato or High School Musical.

drag show participants

Next on the list of unforgettable events from this semester is none other than Nu Alpha Kappa’s Second Annual Drag Show. Celebrating diversity and inclusion, the event featured 13 contestants competing with each other for the title of Drag King and Queen. The ballroom was packed with over 600 people on October 2 as the contestants gave us their best runway walk, lip sync performance and interview answers. This event brought the campus community together in order to show support for LGBTQ culture, and truly embodied what the CSUSM student life experience is all about.

Line dancing

Students also kicked up their boots on Nov. 13 with Country Throwdown, hosted by USUAB, as they learned to line dance to a mix of popular country music and top 40 hits. In between dancing, attendees enjoyed food and posed with friends at the country-themed photo booth.

ASI students

Last but certainly not least, ASI’s annual evening event, The Ball, held on December 4, was a night full of dancing, photos. Back on campus for the first time in several years, the Secret Garden-themed ball featured a ferris wheel, amazing food and, of course, a rocking dance floor.

This was a semester to remember. Tukwut Life will continue to shape and enhance student life in the spring for students to develop more friendships and create memories.
