Workflow – The purpose of this session is to introduce you to the the processes commonly used in planning and executing creative media projects like websites, videos, and multimedia applications. Some topics addressed are: Information Design, Interaction Design, Presentation Design, flowcharting, and storyboards. (1 hour) Chuck

Basic Web Development (Front Page) - In this session we will cover how to: log onto your FrontPage web, import text and images, we'll create hyperlinks, add color to your web pages, and create tables. More Advanced Web Development (Front Page) - In this session we will cover how to: use Front Page themes, frames, shared borders, web forms, and FrontPage components. We will also discuss: design issues, and the FrontPage Navigation view. (1 hour) Garrett

Copyright Issues – Teaches the basic framework for understanding the most recent copyright legislation and how it relates to the most common fair use issues in an academic environment. Learn the most effective ways to add content to your WebCT course.

Prerequisites:

  1. Filling out the "Teaching with Online Components" form at http://courses.csusm.edu/development/plantoteach.html
  2. Having some content to add will make this session more beneficial, so you must have previous HTML experience or attended the FrontPage session before attending this one.
  3. But more importantly, the more solid your course organization and/or navigation structure is, the better your experience will be.

WebCT: Quiz & Survey 1
Tools: Quiz/Survey

In this session, you'll learn to create two uncomplicated, 5-question quizzes via the WebCT interface. Additionally, we look at different ways to organize your quizzes, experiment with some of the settings, and interpret its available statistics & settings. With these basic skills you can expand your repertoire to create randomized exams, anonymous surveys, and more.

Prerequisites: You must have prior WebCT experience or have attended the "Adding Content" session before attending this one.

WebCT: Quiz & Survey 2
Tools: Quiz/Survey, Respondus

If you have anything more complex than a few simple quizzes, it might be time to move to the next level: using Respondus to generate WebCT quizzes. It's often more usable & flexible than WebCT in creating long quizzes, multiple quizzes, multi-course quizzes, complicated quizzes, or if you plan on reusing quizzes or sharing them with colleagues.

WebCT: Course Management
Tools: My Grades, Track Students, Track Pages

Keep track of your students online: for your peace of mind & theirs! Tracking students allows you to verify their access to the course and provide early intervention if necessary. Tracking access to content allows you to see what materials students are using most (or least!) and allows you to focus your modification efforts every semester. Popular with students, keeping grades in WebCT averts FERPA fears. Then last but not least, learn to add students to your new course!

Camtasia – This is a tool that allows us to record a digital video file of what is happening on the computer screen. It is useful for creating self-contained demonstrations of how to do things on the computer. These movies play back using the Windows Media Player commonly found on all Windows machines.
