Message From
The President:
Welcome to California State University
San Marcos! Here are some important things
you should know about our growing campus.
We’re expanding
our academic program.
The Academic Blueprint is the
university’s guide for adding new academic
programs and planning for physical and
curricular support for those programs. As
the campus develops, we are able to provide
more services to the region and new
opportunities for students. Our newest
programs include degrees in biotechnology,
computer information systems, mass media and
environmental sciences. We are also
admitting pre-nursing students for our
much-awaited nursing degree program, which
will launch in fall 2006.
We’re adding
new campus facilities and programs.
Construction continues on the
university’s newest building, Markstein
Hall, which will become the home for the
College of Business Administration in 2006.
On the northeast perimeter of the campus,
construction has begun on a station for the
“Sprinter” commuter train that will run from
Oceanside to Escondido. In the future, we
hope this will provide an efficient and
effective transportation alternative for our
students, staff, and faculty and for
community members visiting campus.
In spring 2005, students voted to support
the growth of collegiate athletics by
approving a new student fee. The funds
generated will allow the university to
expand the collegiate sports offerings by
adding men’s baseball, women’s softball,
women’s volleyball and men’s and women’s
soccer within the next few years.
We’re positively impacting the
regional economy.
Campus spending of $100 million generates
more than $400 million in economic activity;
the campus employs 1,000 faculty and staff
and 650 students a year; and more than 1,100
students graduate each year prepared for
professional level jobs.
We’re enhancing
quality of life for the community.
The university hosts
dozens of performances, events and lectures
that are open to the community. And, the
Kellogg Library, the heart of our campus,
provides a variety of resources available to
the public.
We’re protecting
high quality instruction and student
services during severe budget cuts.
The campus is known for its small classes
and personal attention. Every effort is
being made to protect these characteristics
while accommodating substantial budget
reductions. Priority will be placed on
managing enrollment in order to match
available resources and student access.
We’re
continuing work with the community to assure
high quality instruction and student
services.
We’ve worked diligently to respond to the
needs of our region, but in order to
maintain the momentum of a promising,
exciting, innovative campus, everyone must
participate. The campus is a community
enriched when everyone pitches in to help us
meet our goals. This is particularly
important in challenging budget times. Join
with us!
