Meeting Free Fridays

This is a concept used when the several Finance and Administrative Services' departments moved from an off-campus location, back to campus in 2004.  You may use the ideas below to prepare for your upcoming move.

MEETING FREE FRIDAY (MFF):  A DAY TO CATCH UP

 DEFINITION

Pick a Friday to designate as “Meeting Free Friday: A Day to Catch Up”. Departments may use this day, or part of the day, to engage in organizational activities or catch up on work that is difficult to complete during a normal work week schedule.  A theme may be given to each MFF which will involve an essential activity for those departments that will be moving.

GUIDELINES

  • Department participation is optional, and is at the discretion of the department manager.  Managers may choose partial participation only (limit number of staff involved; limit time involved during day).

  • Departments may choose to engage in an activity other than the designated theme for that day.

  • Since this activity only pertains to your department, normal university business, activities, and meetings will continue on this day throughout the university.  Departments must continue to provide their normal services to the campus community.

  • While it is suggested that this day be kept “meeting free” if possible, this is at the discretion of department managers.

Suggested theme: Archive and Organize!

Goal: to clean out, organize, and archive paper files

To be provided in advance to participating departments:

o       Archiving information from Jim Carr

o       Information on creating an organized filing system

o       Electronic templates for tracking archived box contents

o       Extra recycling bins
