A Campus in Motion

Next ]

The atmosphere at California State University San Marcos is full of optimism, energy and excitement. Opportunities are everywhere, as we focus on growth, achievement and preparation.

The campus declares to students, faculty, staff, and residents of the region, “We’re building a place for you.” The statement is both literal and figurative. In its first decade the campus blossomed from 250 students in a storefront to 7,700 students on a 304-acre campus in the foothills of Northern San Diego County. The next decade promises to maintain the pace, with enrollment expected to reach 11,000 by 2010.

Cal State San Marcos' third President, Dr. Karen S. Haynes, brings a blend of experience, leadership and vision to her position. Haynes comes to the campus from the University of Houston - Victoria where she was president since 1995. Trained in social work, Dr. Haynes served as Dean of the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Houston in Houston.
