Using Writing Center Services

There are four ways to use the Writing Center: appointments, walk-in service, "floater" service, and online consultations.

Appointments

Scheduling an Appointment:
Appointments can be scheduled through our website, over the phone, or in person. If you need help scheduling an appointment online, we will be glad to show you how.

Number of Appointments:
You may book no more than one appointment per day and no more than three per week. Appointments can be booked up to two weeks in advance.

Tardiness:
Please arrive on time for your appointment. We will hold it for five minutes. If you are more than five minutes late for your appointment (by our clock), your time slot will be given to someone else. If you know you will be late, please call and let us know.

No Shows:
You are allowed two (2) No Shows. Students who do not show up for two appointments without canceling will be blocked from making appointments for the rest of the semester.

Canceling Appointments:
Appointments may be canceled at any time through our website or by calling us at (760) 750-4168.

Walk-In

You do not need an appointment to work with a consultant. You may come to the Writing Center at any time to check if we have an available consultant. During peak midday hours, an extra consultant is available specifically to handle walk-in students. Walk-ins are seen on a "first come, first served" basis.

"Floater" Service

The Writing Center has 11 public computers and a print station. Feel free to come in and work on your paper at any stage, including the research phase. During many hours of the day, a floating consultant will be available to answer your questions as they arise.

Online Consultation

Consultants can comment on your paper via email. Use the link at left to access this service.
