Sessions last 30 minutes and are "student-centered." That means that what you work on during those 30 minutes is up to you — just let us know what you want to do. During a session, you can expect the consultant to be able to answer most of your questions about argument and analysis, development, organization, documentation, and grammar. But we never forget that YOU are the writer, and it's your paper with your ideas. Our goal is to help you become a better writer, and we try to focus our sessions on tools or strategies that will help you on future papers.
To be best prepared for a session, please bring the following items with you:
- Bring your assignment guidelines (the prompt) and, if applicable, your instructor's revision comments. Reading the prompt together helps both you and your consultant understand your assignment.
- Bring a pen/pencil and be ready to write. You'll want to make notes of revisions and changes as you review your paper with the consultant.
- Bring a USB flash/jump drive. You'll want to make sure you save any changes you make during your session.
- Bring a print card. There is a print station in the Writing Center for your convenience.
