WSSA Collaborates with several on campus and community organizations

in order to offer a wide variety of Social Justice Activism and

Education opportunities to our members!

Here are some of our events...

   

 

  Spring 2008

 

SMHS 1st Annual Girls’ Empowerment Summit Feb 23rd (Sat) 8am-4pm - San Marcos High School

 

Our members will provide workshop sessions for the Girls at this all day event. 

~Are you GIRL enough?

Learn about the different ways Feminism has been portrayed in the media and in academic circles in order to examine the many facets of the "F" word.  We will come up with our own answer to "What is Feminism?" and explore the possibilities for Feminist consciousness in our futures.

~Women Across the Globe

We will look at global human rights violations facing women world wide, and how women are confronting such adversities.  We will discuss the many ways that students can participate in global activism.

~"Be the change" – Grassroots Community Organizing

Learn how to get involved in a cause that you believe in and how to give back to your community by creating change. 

~Women and the Vote

Join an interactive discussion about the way that American women worked to win the right to vote, and how women today continue to affect the climate of American politics.

Women in Mythology Mar 20th (Thur) U-Hour - Mark 102

 

Our members will provide this workshop/event during the month long Women's History celebration. 

 

 

Take Back the Night April 8th (Tue) 5-7pm -Forum Plaza (Grassy area near Library)

 

Take Back the Night is observed around the country to protest violence against women.  Women and male allies walk in the dark to demonstrate how women have the right to feel safe walking in the dark.

 

 

“Loose Change” Film Screening  April 12th (Sat) 7pm - ACD 102

 

Documentary about 9/11. We will have coffee and discussion afterwards at Old California Coffee House. Co-Sponsored by 315pm.org

 

 

In Your Face April 15th (Tue) 11-2pm - Forum Plaza (Grassy area near Library)

 

This is the 6th Annual In Your Face Event at CSUSM. It is a day dedicated to raising awareness about Domestic Violence.

 

 

 

  Fall 2007

Celebrations of Culture Aug 28th (Wed) U-Hour - Forum Plaza

Spoinsored by the Cross Cultural Center, this event will feature spoken word and musical performances as well as visual presentations from several campus orgs.

“Stripped & Teased: Scandalous Stories with Subversive Subplots” a series of stories told from the perspective of strippers.

Love Your Body Day Oct 18th (Thur) 11am-2pm - Forum Plaza

We will have a variety of booths ranging from yoga, pilates, surf lessons, arts & crafts, slam poetry, and many more to engage students in activities/dialogues about loving your body and being healthy.

 

ill-Literacy Oct 19th (Friday) 6:30-9pm - Arts 111

This unique group performs with a fusion of spoken word, hip-hop, theatre, and visual arts for social consciousness.
