American Sign Language (ASL)
ASL may be used to fulfill the Language Proficiency Requirement* demonstrated by one of the following:
- Complete the equivalent of an intermediate-level ASL course (excluding courses focused
on deaf culture or fingerspelling) at the college level, with a C grade or better
- Demonstrate intermediate-level ASL proficiency via CSUSM Proficiency Exam
- Complete a K-12 mainstream program using ASL interpreters
- Complete a K-12 deaf and hard-of-hearing full-time program
- Approved online courses may be used to satisfy the Language Requirement
*Global Studies majors may not use American Sign Language to satisfy the language
requirement.
