Mentor
Karen Campos, a current graduate from California State University San Marcos, graduated with a double major in Anthropology and Spanish. She is a student assistant and a peer mentor for the Alliance College Link Mentor Program. The program focuses on building a bridge for high school students coming into college. As a peer mentor her role is to help incoming students navigate their first year in college by providing information, guidance, and encouragement in their college aspirations. In addition, she is an ambassador for The Alliance, an on-campus organization who works together with 10 partner school districts in the San Diego and Southwest Riverside counties. The Alliance promotes higher education for students who are at-risk and has created a guarantee admission program to enhance student success at CSUSM. She is an intern at the National Latino Research Center. She works in the Youth Empowerment program tutoring and supporting high at-risk Latino students by providing resources and giving them support in their education. This upcoming Fall, she will be working towards her teacher’s credential. Her personal goal is to become a teacher, not just to teach but to provide the support students need to reach their own personal goals.
