All tutoring in the Academic Success Center is provided by currently enrolled CSUSM students who have previously taken and succesfully passed the course(s) they tutor. All tutors are trained and equipped with the necessary tools to help students become confident, effective and independent learners.
In order to maximize your time with the tutor we ask that you complete the following steps 24 hours prior to your appointment.
*Note: In order to maintain academic integrity tutors will not work on the exact same questions you send. Instead tutors will work to find similar questions that will help you understand a concept or topic.
PLEASE DO NOT USE A PERSONAL EMAIL WHEN SENDING TUTORING MATERIALS TO THE ASC AS THEY MAY GET LOST OR DELETED. USE ONLY YOUR COUGAR EMAIL.
*Note: We highly encourage that students turn on their video whenever possible. This will allow for the tutor to read and understand any non-verbal cues of understanding or confusion.
Help us improve our services by checking your email 24 hours after your appointment and fill out the survey! We strive to provide a welcoming and inclusive experience for all our students.
If you must cancel an appointment, please do so ASAP.
We strictly enforce punctuality. If you anticipate being late to your appointment please notify us as soon as possible. If you are more than 15 minutes late the appointment will be automatically cancelled and recorded as a "no show". Keep in mind that every minute you are late you are cutting down on your time with the tutor. Tutors have back to back appointments and will be unable to extend your session beyond the scheduled time.
If you are facing tech or connection issues on the day of your appointment please notify us directly using the ASC virtual front desk.
For troubleshooting assistance please contact IITS.
We take the privacy of our students and tutors very seriously. All tutoring sessions will be recorded to ensure academic integrity and quality of services provided. We understand that during this tech-driven era many of our students resort to screenshots or cell phone recordings as a means of taking notes. If you chose to do this, we ask that you keep those records for your own personal use. If any videos or screen shots of an online tutoring appointment are shared or made available on your social media or via any other electronic means, we may ask for the video/screen shot to be removed.
Online tutoring is still a professional setting regardless of the mode of delivery. Any derogatory, sarcastic comments and jokes that marginalize anyone are fundamentally unacceptable. Anyone who uses offensive language or profanity will be removed from the session permanently.
