Transfer Student Spotlight

DECEMBER: Pooja

I am:passionate, ambitious, conscientious, and excited about life!

I am a: Psychology Major.

I transferred from:Palomar College.

My favorite place to hang out on campus is: the Gender Equity Center or under any of the trees on the lawn by the Arts Building.

A tip for transfer students is: don't hesitate to ask questions! Everyone is so helpful and willing to give you advice. You can open the door to so many amazing opportunities just by talking to people! I was able to get a position in two research labs by going to office hours and talking to professors about my interests and asking any questions I had.

My most memorable moment at CSUSM so far is: getting elected as the Treasurer of Tau Sigma National Honor Society (which is an honor society for transfer students!!!). It has been a really great experience for me, because it has given me the ability to not only get involved on campus myself, but also help other transfer students navigate their journey on campus and encourage them to get involved and give back to the community.

NOVEMBER: Rylee

I am: outgoing, passionate and WEIRD!

I am a: Social Science major focusing in the fields of Sociology, Psychology and Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies.

I transferred fromPalomar College. Go Comets!!

My favorite place to hang out on campus is: the ASI office or any place with a nice view.

A tip for transfer students is: talk to people! I ended up getting involved in ASI by talking to another student who was also a transfer and we both ran for ASI and now represent the student body which is super cool. I am in my last year so it’s never too late to get involved and meet new people.

My most memorable moment at CSUSM so far is: getting elected into ASI as a CHABSS Representative(so many acronyms). I was someone who always just went to class and left. Now I am not only involved, but I am making a change and using my voice to represent students who may have be like me and don’t even know they have students advocating for students!

OCTOBER: Cody

I am: virtuous, tenacious, genuine, pragmatic.

I am a: Finance Major.

I transferred from: Palomar College.

My favorite place to hang out on campus is: the fifth floor of the library: great view and few distractions.

A tip for transfer students is: know your strengths. You have an outsider's point of view which can be incredibly useful to you and others around you.

My most memorable moment at CSUSM so far is: has been sitting through Professor David Barry's lectures. He is a high-level business consultant who teaches phenomenal management strategies. For me however, he was very influential because he taught what the ideal version of me looks like. I strive to be more like that ideal version of myself every day.

SEPTEMBER: Daniel

I am: athletic, friendly, hard working, and a history nerd.

I am a: History Major.

I transferred from: Bethel College in Kansas to Cuyamaca. I then transferred from Cuyamaca to Palomar, then Palomar to CSUSM.

My favorite place to hang out on campus is: the Academic Success Center!

A tip for transfer students is: get involved in campus. Whether that is a club, job, or going to events; your time will be easier and go by faster if you are involved in something on campus.

My most memorable moment at CSUSM so far is: when a few friends and I dressed up as Professor Bechtol on the last day of class. We all wore button-ups like he wears, and it was really fun to do!

I transferred from: Mira Costa College.

My major is: Sociology.

My favorite place to hang out on campus is: USU rooftop.

Tips I have for other transfers are: Be involved on campus, attended events, and network with the students around you.

A memorable moment at CSUSM so far is: The mental health department hosted a Halloween theme event that had food, drinks, games, and photo booth. I went by myself to that event, and I ended up meeting a new friend who I became close with throughout my first year of CSUSM.
