Frequently asked questions:

  • Will in-person classes resume in the fall?

No, Fall 2020 courses will be primarily delivered virtually, with the exceptions of courses that cannot be held virtually, such as certain labs, clinical, art studio, and performance-based courses.

  • Will Senior Experience still continue as follows?

Yes, Senior Experience will continue. However, there have been some changes made to the spring semester due the shelter-in-place order. The following are changes made to Senior Experience for the Spring 2020 semester.
    • The required deliverables at the end of your project are a well-written report and a slide deck, as if your team were to give a presentation.
    • The due date for your deliverables will be determined by your advisor, please contact your advisor if you are uncertain when to submit your project.
    • There will not be a presentation or a trade show for your project.
    • Virtual presentations are optional and encouraged, but there is no penalty for not presenting.
    • All meetings must be conducted remotely, whether that be with your team members, your advisor, or your sponsors.
  • For SMBA students, will Master’s Experience in the Summer still continue as follows?

Yes. However, given the current situation, it is likely that the project will be completed 100% remotely. If this is the case, virtual presentation will be required, and all other deliverables will remain the same.

  • What is the plan for Senior and Master’s Experience for the Fall?

If the shelter-in-place order remains intact, all project activities will be remote, including designating advisors and sponsors to students. Because it is unclear what the sponsorship level will be in the fall, it is possible for projects to have larger groups than previous semesters and possible for multiple groups assigned to one sponsor.

  • What changes have been made for grading?

    Credit/No Credit Grades

    • CSUSM has extended the Spring 2020 CR/NC grading request deadline until Dec. 31, 2020. This allows students to request CR/NC grading even after final grades have been posted for the spring semester.
    • The MBA program has decided to permit students to petition for CR/NC grades for MBA courses in the 2nd and 3rd block of the Spring 2020 semester.

    Academic Standing

    • CSUSM will not enforce undergraduate Academic Disqualifications for the Spring 2020 semester. Students currently on Academic Probation will be allowed to continue through the Fall 2020 semester on Academic Probation.

    Course Repeats and Grade Forgiveness

    • Undergraduate students may repeat a course for a letter grade if a grade of CR was earned in Spring 2020.
    • Units earned for a repeated course in Spring 2020 will not count toward the 16 unit maximum for grade forgiveness.
