Mark Leibowitz

Mark Leibowitz is a physiologist with over 25 years of experience building and leading successful drug discovery and development teams in both large (Merck) and mid/small (Ligand) pharmaceutical companies and as a consultant to private companies. He has a record of guiding teams to successful closure at all stages of the drug discovery process from target identification/validation to clinical candidate selection and then supporting them into clinical development through Phase 2. His broad biological experience across a number of fields applied to various therapeutic areas facilitates his ability to build and lead productive cross-functional teams across departments, organizations and companies.

From September 2016 to April 2019 Mark held positions of increasing responsibility in the Office of Technology Partnerships at UC Riverside. Ultimately, he was the Director of the Entrepreneurial Proof of Concept and Innovation Center at UCR with responsibility for the NSF I-Corp Site program and other entrepreneurial education and mentoring activities. Prior to UCR, Mark participated in the UCSD von Liebig Center I-Corps Program for three years as a team mentor and as a member of the teaching team and he has participated in the NSF National I-Corps Program as an Industry Mentor. Mark is a Cal graduate, having received his B.S. from U.C. Berkeley and his Ph.D. in Biology from U.C. San Diego.
