Volunteer Professional Mentors

Academic Year 2024-2025 Notification

The CSUSM College of Business Administration (CoBA) Career Mentor Program connects business students with working professionals to develop an experiential learning relationship. Students are paired with mentors based on career interests and experience.

We are looking for professional mentors at all levels of experience (preferrably with 5+ years) across different industries and business functions. Our students study accounting, business analytics, entrepreneurship, finance, global business, global supply chain management, human resources, management in organizations, management information systems, and marketing.

We pair selected mentees with a professional mentor from August through May. We provide mentors and mentees with preliminary information and tips on how to make the most of their time together. Once the introductions are made, the profession of the mentorship is determined by the mentor and mentee. Our expectation is that students drive the relationship.

After the introduction/orientation, mentor and mentee pairs are encouraged to meet once a month and will decide what kind of activites they will do together. These activities could include, but are not limited to, career discussions, networking events, professional meetings, and job shadowing. The formal mentorship ends in May.

Although the College will be mostly "hands off" in the progression of the mentorship, we will check in periodically with students and mentors to make sure things are on track. We will step in to help where needed.

Expectations of Professional Mentors

  • Meet with student mentee at least once per month
  • Plan activities with mentee that will give them exposure to topics such as professional and/or career development
