The Dean’s Award in the College of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics is given to a graduating student who exemplifies the core values of research, creative activities and commitment to discovery. The student has not only demonstrated academic excellence, but has also shown a strong record of service to the college, the university and the surrounding community. This year's recipient also received the 2020 President's Outstanding Graduate Award from President Neufeldt.
Lauren Tafla, B.S. in Applied Physics, Lauren has been working in the Astrophysics and Isotope Geochemistry lab of Dr. Gerardo Dominguez and was selected as a 2018 Summer Scholar. She has conducted research at the Lowell Observatory at Northern Arizona University, co-authored two conference abstracts, has a manuscript currently under review, and presented a poster at the American Astronomical Society meeting in Hawaii this past fall. She has also served as the President for the Sustainability Club and the Society of Physics Students. Lauren was also selected as the CSUSM President's Awardee for the Class of 2020.

CSUPERB Presidents' Commission Scholar
The California State University Program for Education and Research in Biotechnology (CSUPERB) recognizes that research experience is critical to engaging and graduating students interested in biotechnology careers.
