Nonprofit Management and Leadership

CSUSM's Nonprofit Management and Leadership Certificate program will provide a broad overview of how nonprofit organizations are structured and the necessary skills needed to accomplish the organization's mission and goals. Real-world course content will prepare advancing nonprofit leaders to respond to the increasingly complex, dynamic, and challenging nonprofit management environment.

This program is designed for: 

  • Nonprofit professionals seeking to advance to higher-level administrative or CEO-level positions
  • Individuals with a master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree with management experience
  • Professionals from another industry who are interested in transitioning into the nonprofit sector
  • Human Development or other students who are interested in pursuing a career in the nonprofit (with prior approval)

Program includes four comprehensive courses including a capstone project: 

  • Nonprofit Management Principles and Practices
  • Legal & Ethical Issues and Risk Management
  • Financial, MIS and Technology Management
  • Executive Leadership and Board Governance

Program Logistics:

  • Each course meets one evening a week from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. for nine weeks
  • A one week break is scheduled between courses
  • Total hours for the program: 111 hours
  • CEU's: 11
