Business and Economics Librarian

California State University at San Marcos (CSUSM) is pleased to invite applications for the Business and Economics Librarian in the University Library at the level of Senior Assistant Librarian. This position is tenure-track, meaning that as a library faculty member at CSUSM, the incumbent will be responsible for their assigned job responsibilities, professional and campus service commitments, and research/creative activity.

About the Position:

This position serves as the liaison for the College of Business Administration as well as the Department of Economics (housed within the College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences) and is responsible for instruction, reference, and collection development for these areas. The College of Business Administration consists of eight undergraduate options in accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, global business management, global supply chain management, management information systems, and marketing. In addition, there is a Master’s of Business Administration. Courses are taught at both CSUSM’s main campus and the Temecula campus. 

The incumbent should be a reflective instructor who creates learning experiences within and beyond the classroom and conducts assessment of student learning with a focus on continuous improvement. The successful candidate approaches their work with students and faculty (in and out of the classroom) with an equity-minded lens.

As an active participant in the University Library’s Teaching and Learning (TAL) Department, the incumbent will also provide librarian-led instruction in first-year experience and general education courses, as well as general research help. Additional responsibilities may be assigned based on the changing needs of the campus.

About the Teaching and Learning Department:

The CSUSM University Library’s Teaching and Learning Department is made up of faculty liaison librarians and library staff. As a group, we value collaboration, inclusivity, critical reflection, and collegiality. We partner with college faculty to provide holistic learning experiences in all aspects of students’ academic endeavors in both general education and major courses. We center the university’s social justice mission in our work with information literacy.

Minimum Qualifications:

ALA-accredited MLS or foreign equivalent. Demonstrated potential for meeting the requirements for tenure and promotion under the Library's criteria for professional performance, scholarship and service. Demonstrated experience in an instructional setting. Significant knowledge and application of teaching and learning pedagogy. Knowledge of instructional technologies. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in an academic library setting. Undergraduate or graduate degree in one of the aforementioned fields or a related field. Experience planning, teaching, and assessing student learning outcomes. Experience with instructional technologies. Experience working with students and faculty in the aforementioned disciplines. Experience in developing collections that are reflective of undergraduate curriculum in the aforementioned disciplines. Experience with business analytics. Experience with geographic information systems (GIS) as applied to business information. Published/presented research in librarianship or a related field. Active participation in local, regional, or national organizations. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated intercultural competence with diverse groups in at least one aspect of their work.

Duties:

  1. As a member of the University Library’s Teaching and Learning (TAL) Department, take a lead role in creating information-literacy focused learning opportunities and experiences for programs within the College of Business Administration as well as the Economics Department in the College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences. This includes planning, teaching, and assessing information literacy and related instruction, as well as the proactive development of active, collaborative partnerships with faculty to provide such instruction.
  1. Provide discipline-specific reference and research help to students, faculty, staff in the aforementioned programs, as well as the general public. Provide general reference and research help to the CSUSM campus community, including some nights and weekends.
  1. Actively participate as a member of the TAL in the development, teaching, and assessment of instruction to first-year students.
  1. Provide leadership in the development of the business and economics collections. Work with faculty in the various departments to ensure that the Library collection supports their curricular offerings. Prepare program review documents and other reports as needed.
  1. Pursue a strong research agenda within the field of academic librarianship or job-related field.
  1. Actively participate in library, university, and/or professional-level service commitments.
