Summer Teaching Institute: Diversity and Equity Course Requirement

Join us for the Diversity and Equity Course Requirement Summer Institute (DECRSI), a collaboration between the Faculty Center and the D&E Workgroup. 

• June 6 - 9, Monday – Thursday 9a.m. - 4p.m.
• Participating faculty will be compensated $750 
• Open to all faculty 
• Applications are due by May 13th, 2022

The Faculty Center and the D&E Workgroup invite applications from faculty who wish to develop/modify a course that they want to submit for certification for the diversity and equity requirement. The Diversity and Equity requirement policy identifies specific knowledge, dispositions, and skills that must be substantially addressed by courses that meet this requirement. Faculty who participate in the Summer Institute will have the opportunity to work with other faculty on four broad topics: application and review process; diversity and equity content; inclusive pedagogy; and practice delivery. 

The Summer Institute will provide an opportunity for faculty to work on either modifying existing courses or developing new ones with the specific intent of meeting the requirements in the policy. Faculty will also have the opportunity to develop a toolkit of inclusive pedagogical strategies, build an equity-minded syllabus, develop assignments that meet the DE criteria, engage in self-reflection with regard to their own positionality in the classroom, and receive peer-feedback on content delivery. 

1. Revise/develop a detailed course syllabus with the specific intent of meeting the diversity and equity course requirements. 
2. Modify/adapt at least one inclusive pedagogical strategy for implementation in AY 2022 - 23. 
3. Create/modify at least one assignment under DE lens. 

• Who should apply?
  All faculty are welcome to apply, regardless of where you are in the process, from years of experience using this kind of pedagogy, to just starting to explore this area and including it in your courses. 
• How will faculty be selected? Faculty will be selected based on several criteria:
  • Application demonstrates specificity in terms of the course, technique, or issue to be targeted for the Diversity and Equity Requirement 
  • Diverse representation within the institute, including faculty of different ranks, disciplines, and colleges  
  • Diverse representation of experience with diversity and equity 

   

• What is the compensation?
  Faculty will receive $750 for attending 4 days of the institute and completing their annotated syllabus and DE course proposal form.
