Implicit Bias Resources

The Faculty Center supports campus-wide efforts to uncover and address implicit bias in all areas of our work, including the RTP process. In Spring 2022, Academic Senate approved changes to the University RTP document that required PRC training on bias in student evaluations of instruction. The Faculty Center in concert with the Office of Inclusive Excellence will offer anti-bias training to reviewers beginning in Fall 2022.

For Fall 2022 the Faculty Center is offering PRC Implicit Bias Training for faculty on:

Thursday 9/29 2:00-3:30 (Zoom)

Thursday 10/06 2:30-4:00 (Zoom)

Spring 2023 dates will be announced later.

In light of this change, here are some recommended anti-bias resources for you to review prior to your service on a PRC or on PTC that serve as a supplement to the materials covered in the required PRC training.

First, complete one of the implicit bias tests offered by Project Implicit at Harvard.

Then watch the videos below. This video series, from UCLA Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, provides a foundation of understanding implicit bias, as well as practical tips on how to address it. All videos are recommended (~30 min total), but for a quick intro, see the highlighted videos.

  2. Lesson 1: Schemas (3:12)
  3. Lesson 2: Attitudes and Stereotypes (4:13)
