
John C. (Jack) Raymond, a resident of Escondido since 1944, has a long and distinguished
involvement in the San Diego region, and has often been recognized for his contributions.
He has been honored with the Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding Young Man
of the year in 1971; the Association of California School Districts Outstanding Service
Award - 1973; the Community “Good Government” Leadership Award - 1982, the San Diego
Philanthropy Council - Volunteer of the Year – 1990 & 2006, Palomar Family Counseling
Service’s “Heart of the City’ award for Social and Human Services in 1995, Escondido
Rotary’s “Community Servant of the Year” 1994/95, California State University San
Marcos President’s Distinguished Service Award in 2000, San Diego’s Director of the
Year for Not-For-Profit Corporations in 2000, Escondido’s Business Leader of the Year
in 2003, Palomar Pomerado Health System’s Leadership Award 2006, the Escondido Chamber’s
Community Volunteer if the Year Award 2006 and the City of Escondido’s Spirit of Escondido
award in 2007.
Mr. Raymond’s local community activities include election to and serving as President
of the Escondido Elementary School Board of Trustees; President of the Escondido Chamber
of Commerce; Chair of the City of Escondido’s redevelopment Project Area Committee;
President of the Escondido Rotary Club; Chair of the Palomar Family YMCA, Chair of
the Elementary School District’s Classified Personnel Commission, President of the
Escondido Community Dialogue, and Chair of Escondido’s California Center for the Arts
Board of Directors. He has also served on the Board of Directors of Palomar Family
Counseling Service and the Boys and Girls Club of Escondido In San Diego County he
has been Chair of the San Diego Economic Development Corporation’s Board of Directors;
Chair of the LEAD San Diego Board of Directors; President of District 5340 Council
of Rotary Clubs; Chair of the San Diego County Human Resources Advisory Board; Chair
of the University Council - California State University San Marcos; Chair of the San
Diego Foundation’s Charitable Real Estate Foundation, and Chair of the San Diego Foundation
Board of Governors. He has served as a member of the Board of Overseers - University
of California San Diego, the Private Industry Council of San Diego, The Bishop’s School
Board of Trustees, the San Diego Dialogue, the Mingei International Museum Board of
Directors, and the Advisory Board of Directors - Automobile Club of Southern California.
A graduate of Cornell University, Mr. Raymond, in 2008, received an Honorary Doctorate
Degree from California State University San Marcos. He is Chairman and CEO of The
Raymond Companies.
