Stephen Tsui, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Physics, CSUSM
~ Faculty Representative, CSUSM Foundation
Stephen Tsui is an Associate Professor of Physics at California State University San Marcos and is the Project co-Director of the Facilitating Identity, Retention, and Successful Transition to STEM (FIRST2STEM) program which supports first- and second-year STEM majors who require more preparation before taking calculus. Stephen recently served as the Chair for the Physics Department and the Electrical Engineering program. In addition to various service roles at CSUSM, Stephen is a member of the Quantum Design Education Advisory Board.
Stephen teaches both introductory and upper division physics courses, notably the Physics Advanced Laboratory. He is an experimental condensed matter physicists with interests in the electrical and magnetic properties of materials. Undergraduate researchers in his laboratory have worked on projects related to resistive random access memory phenomena, magnetic spin reorientation compounds, and the electrical behavior of colloids.
Stephen earned his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Houston in 2008 and joined the Physics faculty at CSUSM shortly thereafter.
