Carolyn graduated with her degree in Biological Sciences from Southern Illinois University more than 30 years ago. She then worked as a Clinical Lab Scientist, before making the decision to put her career on hold and focus on her family. Her husband traveled extensively in his work for the U.S. Navy. As her children grew, she took post baccalaureate courses through extension at CSUSM starting in 1994, obtained a teaching credential from CSUSM in 1998, and worked as a substitute teacher while focusing on her children. Fast forward 20 years—her two sons grown and in college—Carolyn returned to pursue her passion for science and biology, and enrolled in the masters program at CSUSM in Biological Sciences.
