As an employee of the California State University (CSU), you have a comprehensive program of benefits available to you and in many instances your family. This page provides an overview of voluntary benefits programs. Benefit program details are contained in the official plan documents. Due to CSU policy and individual vendor requirements, eligibility varies by plan. Please review the eligibilty requirements for each plan.

MetLaw Legal Plan
The MetLaw® Legal Plan is offered by Hyatt Legal Plans, Inc., which is a subsidiary of MetLife. This plan covers representation for many personal legal services for employees and their eligible dependents.
Participants can receive services from a Network or Out-of-Network attorney. Services for covered legal matters performed by a Network attorney are fully paid for by the plan. Out-of-Network attorney fees for covered services are reimbursed based on a set fee schedule. The plan covers telephone and office consultations for an unlimited number of matters, even if the matter is not fully covered, so long as it is not excluded.

California Casualty Auto and Home Insurance Plus
As the CSU’s auto and home insurance program provider,California Casualty has provided these plans for over two decades—and is constantly reviewing coverage offerings, rates, and ways they can improve the Group Auto and Home Insurance program. Our agent is Inez Morales, who can be reached at (877) 999-8927.
As of January 1, 2011, California Casualty instituted a new 15% rate reduction specifically for CSU Employees.

The Standard Insurance Company
Voluntary Life Insurance:
The CSU offers group life insurance that employees may purchase for themselves, their spouse, and their dependent children. Employees for whom term life insurance is provided by the CSU may choose to increase their coverage by participating in this program. Payments are made though payroll deduction on an after-tax basis.
Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D):
The Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) plan is offered by The Standard. This plan pays a benefit to the employee or his/her selected beneficiary in the event of death due to an accident or dismemberment at a benefit level selected by the employee.
The Voluntary Long Term Disability:
This plan provides loss of income protection (up to 60%) due to a qualified disability. The vendor offers two (2) different plan options which include a 30 or 90 day waiting period

Group Critical Illness Plan
The Group Critical Illness plan, offered by Aflac, is underwritten by Continental American Life Insurance Company. This plan provides a lump-sum benefit payment to cover out-of-pocket medical expenses and the costs associated with life-changes following the diagnosis of a covered critical illness. Critical Illnesses covered under the plan include the following: Heart Attack, Stroke, Major Organ Transplant, Renal Failure (End Stage), Cancer, Carcinoma in situ, Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery, and Skin Cancer.
CalPERS Long Term Care
This program is available to all CSU employees, their spouse, their parents, their in-laws, and their siblings. It covers extended care costs necessary due to chronic illness, injury, or frailty of old age. Care can be given in a nursing home, an assisted living facility, a hospice, or in the home.
There are a variety of plans available. Premiums are based on the type of plan chosen and the age of the enrollee. Enrollment must be done during an open enrollment period as set by the program.
At this time CalPERS Long Term Care is not accepting new enrollments.
