2019 Stats

IITS collects and reports on service metrics to help analyze trends and overall performance of services and processes.  The service metrics and measurement reports align to the IT Strategic Plan goal to provide increased transparency and to better inform the campus community about system usage trends over time.

GIS Activity Report – Fall 2019

The Fall 2019 semester was the busiest semester yet for GIS support by IITS.

  • 24 course sections (11 for the first time)
  • 860 students enrolled in these sections
  • 16 in-class instruction/help from IITS
  • 735 accounts created Fall 2019
  • 589 AGOL users created 9,556 items on AGOL
    (maps, web apps, data layers, reports)

Instructional Support -- Fall 2019

  • 1187 tickets for CC in Fall semester.
  • 24 tickets/day - average for previous Fall semester was 10.9 t/d – representing a 12% decrease overall. So the update to the new version of Moodle was not as bad as it might have been.

Network usage trends

  • Top Applications Used - The trend continues to be that Netflix is the top application utilized by the campus community, followed by Instagram, YouTube, and Snapchat.
  • iPhone or Android? - 38% of all devices that connect to the CSUSM network are iPhones.  Android OS represents less than 15% of connected devices.

Email

  • Campus faculty and staff read 8.1 million email messages during the Fall 2019 semester for an average of 62 emails per person per business day.

Servers

  • IITS administers 402 servers for the university, almost all of which run virtually (93%), either in the campus datacenter or in the cloud.

  • 12,364 envelopes (DocuSign) sent
  • 2,259 transactiosn (Adobe Sign) sent
  • Totals: 14,623 (~32% increase over 2018)

Enterprise Information Systems

  • 140+ PeopleSoft database clones
  • 60+ PeopleSoft project migrations completed (new, enhancements, and fixes)
  • 200+ PeopleSoft Help Desk tickets resolved
  • 19 PeopleSoft Student maintenance packs
  • 5 PeopleSoft HR maintenances packs

Campus Printing

  • 558,323 pages printed using Paw Print - Spring 2019
  • 473,294 pages printed using Paw Print - Fall 2019
  • ~25K print jobs per semester were submitted, but never released to the printer, reducing waste and resulting in the equivalence of saving ~607.5 kg of CO2, ~38,000 bulb hours, and 1.68 trees. Based on printer – usage summary report and environmental impact report in Papercut

Efficient Power Management!

  • 38% electrical cost reduction -- savings of ~$52K -- by using the Verdiem application power management and control software.

Mobile App

  • Spring 2019 – Average of 1,759 daily users & 19,283 ID views
  • Fall 2019 – Average 3,080 daily users & 39,536 ID views
  • 2019 ID’s Generated – Approx 7,021*
  • Cougar Courses most popular app feature
