How to Access Virtual Student Support Services

During the current period of remote instruction and services at CSUSM, essential services will remain available to you via a hybrid/remote platform. Student service providers have developed plans to maintain essential services and staff in support of student needs.

As always, student success and well-being are our campus' top priority. We are committed to being available during this time of uncertainty to support you.  

Academic Support

  • Keep Learning in Virtual Classrooms

    The Office of Undergraduate Studies has compiled sources for students to be successful in virtual courses. Please visit their Keep Learning site for resources.
  • Academic Advising

    The Office of Academic Advising has transitioned to remote advising to ensure continuity of services. Please visit the Virtual Academic Advising webpage for more information.
  • Learning & Tutoring Services

    Learning & Tutoring Services in the Office of Undergraduate Studies is committed to your academic success. The academic learning centers will suspend tutoring and supplemental instruction from March 16–19 to transition to online support. Beginning March 20, the following academic learning centers will resume by providing virtual tutoring, academic support and supplemental instruction:
    Academic Success Center:
    Limited online tutoring for finance, economics, history, psychology and Spanish will be available. Students will be able to schedule an appointment online through our ASC website. Supplemental instruction will be provided online for specific courses as noted on the website.
    STEM Success Center:
    STEM SC virtual academic support will include Chem 160, Chem 201 and 202, Math 101, 132 and Math 160. The STEM SC tutors will collect your questions and provide recorded responses that you can play back to deepen your understanding. One-on-one tutoring will not be available at this time. Check the website for updates regarding new course additions to the  schedule.
    The Writing Center will provide online resources and webinars, a venue for quick questions, and limited one-on-one tutoring by appointment.   
    We will enhance virtual support as possible over the course of the semester. Please check the respective websites for updates.
  • Placement Testing Services

    Testing Services provides current and incoming students with a variety of placement and assessment required for certain math, chemistry and modern language courses at CSUSM. 

  • Math 101 Facilitation

    Students who would like additional support for Math 101/001 can schedule one-on-one remote appointments with a proficiency services math facilitator. For more information, please contact Rosa Quintana at

    Other resources for students in Math 101/001 are being developed and will be made available later in the semester.

  • Educational Opportunity Program (EOP)

    Current students can schedule appointments for counseling and peer mentoring services provided to EOP students via phone and Zoom conferencing at

  • TRIO Student Support Services

    Advising and counseling services, academic coaching and tutoring in math/writing will be offered to TRIO SSS students via Zoom conferencing, email and Microsoft Teams.

  • Personal Academic Support Services (PASS)

    PASS works with students to provide appropriate support and resources to help students achieve academic and personal success. (Students affiliated with a campus specialized program should contact their program counselor/advisor for assistance first.)

  • Pathways to Academic Success & Opportunities (PASO)

    PASO advisors will offer virtual advising appointments. Program-identified students who are transitioning from high school to CSUSM will be contacted via email and phone.

  • College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP)

    CAMP scholars may continue to schedule appointments with their program advisors via Zoom conferencing or telephone should they have questions or concerns. Appointments may be made via Accudemia.

Health, Counseling & Basic Needs Support

  • Student Health

    Student Health & Counseling Services is open. Please call to confirm hours of operation and appointment availability as it may change due to COVID-19. SHCS does not provide testing for COVID-19.

  • Counseling Services

    Student Health & Counseling Services will continue to provide counseling services virtually. To request counseling, please access "Paperwork for Initial Consultation" via CougarApps (open a new browser to log in to CougarApps, come back to this page, and then click this link). Then, call 760-750-4915 to schedule a phone consultation.

  • Cougar Care Network

    Cougar Care Network will continue to provide services by phone, email and virtually for students dealing with personal, academic, financial or other challenges that may adversely affect their academic success and/or collegiate experience. Contact CCN for information, support and connection to on- and off-campus resources.

  • Cougar Pantry

    The Cougar Pantry will be holding a pop-up pantry at University Village Apartments (UVA) on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

  • Student Financial Assistance

    Student Emergency Fund

    The Student Emergency Fund is available to currently enrolled CSUSM students who encounter an unexpected financial emergency or catastrophic event in which their basic needs and/or ability to function as a student are impacted.

    Student Emergency Loan

    This is designed for current students who have unique or unexpected expenses occur. As the emergency loans are intended for those scenarios and have a repayment deadline of eight  weeks after approval, students should carefully analyze their budget and repayment ability prior to applying. Students can borrow up to a maximum of $500 for each emergency loan.

  • Dean of Students

    The Dean of Students Office will continue to provide advocacy services and serve as a centralized resource for connecting students with appropriate services across campus and in the community.

  • Disability Support Services

    DSS will continue to provide support to students using email, Zoom and phone as appropriate. There will be a minimal DSS office presence to proctor exams that cannot be done online or to provide other services that cannot be duplicated virtually.

Financial Services

    Cashier's Office

    Student Financial Services will be unavailable for in-person visits until further notice. Deposits can be made in the drop box outside of Cougar Central (not the stand-alone white drop box that is used for Admissions).


    To ensure the maximum level of safety for all employees, all “live” paychecks for the March master payroll will be mailed no later than Friday, March 27 to the home address on file with the university. We urge all employees not on direct deposit to log in to PeopleSoft employee self-service MyCSUSM no later than Monday, March 23, to confirm that the home address on file is accurate and make any updates as necessary. Upon accessing MyCSUSM, employees can update their address by selecting "My HR Resources" and then "Personal Information."

    Given the move to virtual instruction for the remainder of the semester, you have the option to terminate your CSUSM housing license agreement with no termination fee. This is optional, and housing will remain open for residents who would like to stay.

  • Athletics

    Per the California Collegiate Athletic Association, all intercollegiate athletic activities have been suspended until further notice.

    Access to the following athletics facilities will be temporarily suspended:

    • Aire Fitness Center

    • Sports Center gymnasium
  • Campus Recreation

    Due to access to fitness/activity areas being temporarily suspended, all Campus Recreation activities have been suspended until further notice.
