Dr. Kimberly D'Anna-Hernandez, Associate Director
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Kimberly D’Anna-Hernandez as the new Associate Director of OTRES. Dr. D’Anna-Hernandez is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at CSUSM and is committed to providing education and support to students from underrepresented groups. As a Chicana and first-generation college student she brings intimate understanding of many of the challenges faced by these students. Dr. D’Anna-Hernandez joined CSUSM in 2011 where she set up 2 research programs aimed at understanding biological mechanisms that underlie postpartum depression: one focused on human subjects, the Cultural Perinatal Health Laboratory, and a parallel program that utilizes animal models, the Maternal Behavior Neuroendocrinology Laboratory. She has been guiding students at OTRES for more than 6 years, offering mentoring and support, and as a co-instructor for the OTRES professional development course.
Dr. D’Anna-Hernandez received a BS in Zoology with a concentration in Animal Behavior/Neuroscience and a minor in Chicano/Latino Studies from Michigan State University. She then completed a PhD in Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Wisconsin-Madison followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Psychiatry at University of Colorado Denver. She has been successful in garnering external funding from NIH and NSF for her work, as well as from the American Psychological Association to fund the inaugural Psychology Summer Research Program. She has received several awards, including the Kerry G. Mowen Excellence in Faculty Mentoring Award and the President's Outstanding Faculty Award for Scholarship and Creative Activity.

Dr. Richard Armenta (Kinesiology) and Dr. Carlos Luna Lopez (Biology) are OTRES Faculty Fellows for the 19/20 academic year.
Dr. Armenta will be offering professional development to OTRES Scholars in our workshop and seminar series. Dr. Luna Lopez will be guiding OTRES Scholars in the development of fellowship proposals. And both will provide advice on the selection and training of OTRES Scholars.
