Explaining the iOS Spyware Vulnerability
On Thursday August 25th, researchers published evidence that a group of private cyberarms dealers, called the NSO Group, had been selling spyware for Apple iOS devices to the numerous governments. The spyware is delivered to mobile devices through a series of critical vulnerabilities in the iOS operating system. The spyware is being called "Pegasus," and once it is installed on your device it can virutally surveil almost anything on your phone.
How Does This Affect You?
If you have an iOS device (iPhone/iPad/iWatch), you could be affected by this spyware. If you do own one of these devices, this spyware could potentially track everything you do on your phone, including your text messages, phone call records and location.
How can you protect yourself?
The best way to protect yourself is to make sure that any iOS devices you have are up to date. Apple has been extremely responsive with this issue and yesterday released an update to fix the vulnerabilities allowing the Pegasus spyware to be installed and used.
