Becoming an SI Leader

Looking for a part-time job that enhances your resume and fits your schedule?

Apply to be a Supplemental Instruction leader! As a Supplemental Instruction leader you help facilitate student success by leading study sessions, and creating study materials. You will combine your knowledge in the course with the professor's material to ensure the students perform well, and gain the proper study techniques to continue to thrive in all their other courses. 

Benefits of being an SI Leader

  • As an SI Leader, you will facilitate weekly group study sessions, experiences which are great preparation for future academic endeavors, including teaching and leadership positions.

Who Can Apply:  

Qualified SI Leaders are students who:

  • Currently enrolled CSUSM student (student must be enrolled in at least 1 unit at CSU San Marcos for the semester in which they plan to hold employment)
  • Passed the course for which they wish to be an SI with a B or higher
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Must obtain faculty approval from instructor of record confirming your ability to facilitate learning in the assigned discipline. 

    (You will need to just provide us with the name of a Faculty member who can fill out a reference form for you. Reference checks will not be made until an applicant completes the interview process. If you are a transfer student and did not take any courses at CSUSM yet, you can submit the name of a Faculty member from the community college you attended. This Faculty member must be able confirm your ability to facilitate learning in the assigned discipline.)

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Be able to work between 8-10 hours per week
  • Available to attend pre-semester training (usually takes place the week before school starts)

  2. Search for "Supplemental Instruction" or Job Posting # 3686522 

  3. On the far right of the Job posting you will see a large green icon with the word APPLY.
