Hello Everyone! My Name is Dylan Crivello and I am a Political Science Major and Sociology minor currently in my Junior Year here at CSUSM. I am currently serving as the Chair & Chief of Staff on the ASI Board of Directors. I have been committed to serving, engaging, and empowering students from my time as a student advocate in Lobby Corps to my current position. I am an experienced leader and ASI Executive and I work closely with the current ASI president on many projects and decisions. I have worked in my role to appoint students to committees all over the university, ensuring that decisions are not being made without student representation. I am wholly qualified through my experience and my dedication to serving students.

1. Why do you want to run for ASI President?
I would like to run for ASI President to continue the work of advocating for students and to make sure that their voices are heard. I will continue to listen and voice the concerns of all 17,000 students here on our campus and work with my team to ensure we serve, engage, and empower all students.
2. What qualities and experiences do you have that will make you effectively serve, engage, and empower CSUSM students?
My experience and qualifications begin with from when I first got to campus, I joined ASI as a volunteer in the advocacy group Lobby Corps where I spoke to state lawmakers to advocate to fix financial aid. That led me to my current position, Chair & Chief of Staff where not only do I work closely with our current President but I worked to seat several students in committees across campus, often with no other student representation in the room.
3. Based on your experiences as a student, what do you hope to accomplish if elected?

If elected I hope to accomplish a smooth and safe transition back to campus while ensuring that student concerns are not overlooked in the process. I would like to provide resources and help students get acquainted to this new campus atmosphere that we will be returning to.

MARBELLA RAMIREZ

Hello! My name is Marbella Ramirez, but you can call me Mar. I am a communication major with a concentration in media studies. In addition, I minor in chemistry and biology. I am a first-year student this year, as well as a first-generation university student overall. In high school, I had the honor to serve on multiple leadership teams including in organizations such as ASB, yearbook, and the school newspaper. The roles I had in these organizations were similar to the duties of what I am running for. Therefore, I am confident in my ability to lead in an organized, authentic, and beneficial manner. In my personal experience, due to COVID, the transition was difficult. I admit it made my first semester at CSUSM seem impossible to navigate. However, what I admire about this university is the network of support and inclusion it has worked hard to build. It is due to our common dilemma, and the community fostered by our beloved campus that I was inspired to run for this position. I am relatively new to this campus, however, I believe that having a young face on the board will help engage the younger students, including the first years during the upcoming school year. CSUSM was built in order to create a campus where women could graduate in career fields they weren't graduating from before. I want to keep up the tradition by being a listening ear for any concerns from not just our female-identifying students, but all classmates no matter race, ethnicity, gender, etc. I will serve by being genuine and flexible to any concerns that arise. If there is something that makes the student body happy, I will ensure that it is not changed. I will engage other students through example because I can't expect engagement if, as a representative, I do not engage too. I will empower through personal support for each and every individual, whether it be through honest words or something bigger, I will do my best to help. I promise to respect every one of you. 1. Why do you want to run for ASI Executive Vice President?
My reason for running in the ASI election is simple, to be of service to the community. I may just be a newbie in the world of higher education but even I can make a difference. My first year here was rough, I went a full semester missing out on so many wonderful opportunities. I decided to run in order to prevent others from following my path. If I could become accessible to my fellow students then their transition wouldn't be as daunting as it was to me. I believe that by being a younger face, I can act as a more accessible figure, however, just because I am younger does not mean that I am not qualified.
2. What qualities and experiences do you have that will make you effectively serve, engage, and empower CSUSM students?
My previous leadership experience varies across multiple platforms. I was a newspaper editor for four years of my high school career, as well as a yearbook editor for two. I managed multiple club board positions such as a secretary position for UNICEF, a president position in a multicultural club, and a vice president position for Key Club. In addition, in my final year of high school, I was apart of my high school's version of ASI. My experience in multiple sectors has opened my horizons, I have networked with people of multiple backgrounds and have established my organizational skills. These organizations taught me the importance of always being open and supportive of whoever you meet. With being part of so many organizations, I was able to expand my social skills and listen to all comments that were in circulation. I was able to concentrate on multiple things at once successfully, therefore I am confident in being able to concentrate on the ASI vice president position.
3. Based on your experiences as a student, what do you hope to accomplish if elected?
I hope to accomplish a wider network of organizations so that it becomes easier for everyone to get involved. I believe there is great importance to involving yourself in the community. However, it is more beneficial when you fall into the perfect community. I want to support every single organization, no matter how many members they boast because a "simple" organization can give fruit to a bigger product. I learned this after multiple years of experience, and I still see this potential at CSUSM. Apart from organizations, I want to continue supporting our community through the many resources available. For our first-generation students, I want to support them in a way that fits their needs. Specific o them, they are students who have most likely never had a figure to guide them through their education. By strengthening our mentorship program, I am sure that we can relieve a burden off their shoulders. That was only an example of what I plan to push when I become vice president, it is not the only thing I plan to do. Not everyone is facing the same problem, we are all unique, but I believe that there is a way to serve each and every single one of the students at this campus. All I need is to listen to their worries and troubles, and together with your support it is possible to find a solution for every problem that arises.

ANDREW GAMBOA

Hello everyone! My name is Andrew Gamboa. I am a second year Political Science major, with a minor in Business. Iam running for the Executive Vice President position for ASI. As a Sophomore I have reached several amazing achievements. I have been on CSUSM’s dean's list all three semesters that I've been on campus. I currently serve as the ASI Vice President of Student & University Affairs where I've gained a ton of experience serving as an ASI Executive, Leading a volunteer team, pushing civic engagement efforts through this virtual environment and serving as the voice of CSUSM at the Cal State Student Association. I am a returning Orientation team member and will be a mentor this year. Not only will I get to train and guide a new Oteam member, I will again get to serve Hundreds of Freshman & Transfers as we welcome them to our campus. I serve in three roles in my fraternity Sigma Chi, those being the Fundraising Chair, Historian Chair and Assistant Recruitment Chair. Lastly, I am the GLC Vice President Internal where I help oversee the greek community and it's policies/activities. I think that all of these achievements have best prepared me to take on this position for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. My future career goal is to become a Teacher, and this position will allow me to take my leadership development in a new direction. I’m a very ambitious, well driven and confident person. I wish to do the duties of Executive Vice President to the best of my abilities, with the best intentions and to be a strong, transparent voice for my fellow students. 1. Why do you want to run for ASI Executive Vice President?

I want to run for the Executive Vice President position because I would like to continue my work that I’ve begun in ASI. In this new role I will focus more on the fiscal operations of our organization. This year I learned the in's and out’s of being an executive and now I’m ready to tackle the next year in a new role, with new skills and strengths than I didn’t have prior to this experience. I’m excited to hopefully continue serving my peers and the San Marcos community.
2. What qualities and experiences do you have that will make you effectively serve, engage, and empower CSUSM students?

The qualities and experiences that I’ve had that will allow me to effectively serve, engage and empower CSUSM students are the following: This past year I served as the Vice President Of Student & University Affairs for this year's ASI executive team. In this role I lead a volunteer team, served on several committees, served as the CSSA san marcos representative, had a social media campaign and worked on the student fee project alongside the current Executive Vice President. I am a second-year o-teamer where I welcome new students to our campus and learn everything there is to know about CSUSM. I am also a mentor to a 1st year o-teamer and get to further their leadership skills, as well as my own. I am a part of the greek community on campus, and hold several roles in my fraternity Sigma Chi. The roles that I’ve held have furthered my leadership and time management skills. Lastly, I serve in the Greek leadership council as the vice president internal. In this role I support the president and the greek community in a plethora of ways. I also organize and run Greek Week.
3. Based on your experiences as a student, what do you hope to accomplish if elected?

If elected, I hope to accomplish the work that I began this year with my team. With the hopeful return to campus next year, I will be able to get things done in person that weren’t feasible virtually. I want to continue supporting and serving my peers as best I can and In this new role I believe that I would be the perfect person to do so. Thank you for reading!

JULIA GLORIOSO

Hello! My name is Julia Glorioso and I am a second-year student, political science major with a double minor in geography and border studies. I currently serve as the 2020-2021 College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral, and Social Sciences (CHABSS) Representative on the ASI Board of Directors and have worked and am continuing to work for the betterment of my constituents. I have done this through initiatives, committees, events, and connecting with students. I am now running for Vice President of Student & University Affairs and if elected I will work to serve, engage, and empower students by listening to student's needs and concerns, working closely with campus partners to ensure the student voice is heard and acted upon, and by clearly and effectively communicating information to the student body. I will also create engaging initiatives for all students to take part in that will build a closer and more connected campus community, especially during these challenging times. I have a strong passion for advocacy, governance, and for bettering the CSUSM community which is why I am running for this position. Overall, I will work to ensure that CSUSM students are effectively served by their student government, are provided exciting opportunities for engagement, and lastly empowered through the actions I take on behalf of the student body to ensure the best social and educational college experience.

1. Why do you want to run for ASI Vice President of Student and University Affairs?
I want to run for ASI Vice President of Student & University Affairs because I want to serve, engage, and empower students and create the best CSUSM experience possible. I will advocate for student success, food and housing insecurity, mental health, sustainability, and social justice. I will take a diverse approach and listen to all student voices to ensure I am in touch with the needs of the student body. I also want to bridge the gap between administration and students by keeping students informed on important university and CSU-wide information. Lastly, I want to create an environment of civility during these extremely divisive times in politics and get students more engaged with civic engagement efforts.
2. What qualities and experiences do you have that will make you effectively serve, engage, and empower CSUSM students?
The experience I have that will make me effectively serve, engage, and empower students is that I have a variety of on-campus experiences both within and outside of ASI that make me an effective leader. In my first year at CSUSM, I joined ASI Lobby Corps where I learned about lobbying and advocacy for higher education. At the end of the year, I got to attend the California Higher Education Summit and lobby state legislators on behalf of the Fix Financial Aid Campaign. That year I also got accepted into the Alliance to Accelerate Excellence in Education as an Alliance Ambassador. As an Ambassador, I present to local middle and high school students about college and the Guaranteed Admissions program that CSUSM offers. I also do outreach to CSUSM students and hold presentations where important campus information is shared. Both programs have a special focus on helping lower-income and minority students. This year I am the ASI CHABSS representative where I represent and advocate for students’ views, issues, and concerns. I listen to my constituents’ concerns and consider all viewpoints when making a decision on behalf of the student body. I also regularly attend committee meetings and work with campus partners making me well equipped with stepping into the role of Vice President of Student & University Affairs. I consider myself an open-minded and empathetic leader that strives to make the most informed and sound decisions possible.
3. Based on your experiences as a student, what do you hope to accomplish if elected?
If elected, I hope to increase the number of students registered to vote, encourage and promote civic engagement efforts, and collaborate with on-campus and community partners to create innovative initiatives and opportunities for students to take part in. I also hope to create transparency and trust between the ASI Board of Directors and CSUSM students. I will strive to be an effective liaison between the CSU, the California State Student Association, the CSUSM administration, and the student body. I want all students to be informed and up-to-date on important campus information, that way they can feel included in the process and make informed decisions when it comes to their educational experience.

ASI College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (CSTEM) Representative Candidates

STEPHANIA REY

Hi my name is Stephania Rey. I am a junior and a Software Engineering major. I am running for this ASI position, because since day one at CSUSM I have been actively helping my fellow students to get more access to resources and in aiding them for transiting to a full time job after finishing their college career. I have been an active student advocate working with the local community colleges and community in assisting their students to have a smooth transition to a major university like CSUSM and having equally opportunity to engaging in hands on projects and networking opportunities. As any active student club leader and member on campus, I have been working hard with my team members to ensure that our students have equal access to resources, workshops, and extra curricular activities that can assist they in their education path and success. I hope this experience is taken into account to vote for me so I can contribute more in this position for all of you.

1. Why do you want to run for ASI Student at Large for Diversity and Inclusion?
I want to have a stronger representation for all CSTEM students. We have a very supportive university but there is still room for improvement. I would like to bring my experience of over 2 years working with students and staff to improve our curriculum, and increase opportunities for the students to get access for better resources before they graduate and start looking for a job.
2. What qualities and experiences do you have that will make you effectively serve, engage, and empower CSUSM students?
Hardworking, resourceful, well connected. I have experience over 2 years working with different clubs, student bodies, and external institutions both in the government and the private sector that can be very beneficial to our students.
3. Based on your experiences as a student, what do you hope to accomplish if elected?
I would like to make more class sections available to all Science, Math, CS, and Engineering majors so that they can accelerate their career. I also would like to have tuition and fees that are paid by the students to be spent in ways that can benefit they such as student run projects, start up ideas and collaboration with local companies, hiring outside professionals from the industry to training our students to learn hands on skills that are valued and are in demand in the job market that are not offered currently at school, events, networking opportunities and real world experience in the industry. I want to help create new scholarships and sources of funding. Revise and utilize a new funding system. Lastly, I am currently working externally to make those opportunities available noy only for CSTEM students but to all of our students.
