Tuberculosis Screening

All CHAD majors are required to complete CHAD 496: Observation and Assessment Lab at the Center for Children and Families (CCF on campus).  CHAD majors must complete the backgound check and immunization requirements no more than one year and no later than 3 weeks from the start of the semester in which they take the CHAD 496 course.

ALL DOCUMENTATION MUST BE SUBMITTED BY THE STUDENT TO THE CCF.  THE PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT MAY NOT/WILL NOT TAKE THE DOCUMENTATION AS PER CHANCELLOR'S OFFICE GUIDELINES.

Tuberculosis

Students must complete a Tuberculosis (TB) test. TB tests can be obtained at Student Health (ask for an appointment for a TB Risk Assessment and tell them you need the test for the CCF's licensing requirements as mandated in California Code of Regulations Title 8 and Title 22), your own personal physician’s office, or a local clinic. Students are responsible for the fees.

Due to HIPPA guidelines, students must deliver the results of their TB screen directly to the Center for Children and Families (CCF).

Students must be able to provide documentation that they do not have active TB by one of three ways:

  1. Students who have not had a TB skin test within the last 12 months will be required to have a negative two-step skin test separated by one to three weeks, OR
  2. Students who have a current negative one-step skin test, done within the last 12 months, will require an additional one-step skin test. Student must provide documentation of both TB skin tests, OR
  3. Students who have a documented past positive TB skin test or history of Bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) will be required to provide a clear chest x-ray (within the last two years – actual radiology report required) and a TB Symptom Questionnaire form. Blood Assay for Mycobacterium Tuberculosis or Quantiferon TB Gold Test will not be accepted.

Students will submit a copy of their TB test results directly to the CCF.  Additionally, students may need to update this requirement annually (1-step skin test or TB Symptom Questionnaire**) while in the program and interacting with minors, as determined by the agency with which they work.

**Repeat chest x-ray will be determined by your provider based upon current CDC guidelines.
