Cal State San Marcos College of Business Administration conducted research on the economic impact of the San Diego Cannabis Industry that revealed legal cannabis taxation yielded over $12M to the combined cities of San Diego, La Mesa, and Vista in 2019.

The report was developed by the CSUSM Office of Business Research and Analysis (OBRA) in partnership with Blue Water Government Affairs. The cannabis consulting group worked with OBRA to collect data on the San Diego cannabis industry. The student research team used public records from the cities to examine how adult-use and medicinal cannabis sales influence community finances, police enforcement, and public health.
