Thomas Kenaya

Thomas is a California Certified Public Accountant with over 10 years of professional experience, both with CPA firms and in private industry.    He is a member of the California Society of CPAs, and the American Institute of CPAs.  Thomas is a technical expert in the accounting field, particularly in the areas of technology, manufacturing, distribution, life sciences and not for profit organizations.  Not just a ‘numbers person’, Thomas is particularly skilled at listening and disseminating information to achieve working solutions that really work for everyone.  He is comfortable working with people at all levels to achieve outstanding, efficient results.  He is frequently consulted on process improvements and quality control within Baker Tilly and for his clients.  Thomas also receives high marks from students in all of the coursework he teaches (both technical and ‘soft’ subjects) and is a regular contributor to improving the San Diego community.  Two of Thomas’ most recent community activities include serving as a speed mentor for the CalCPA Society Mentoring Program for students and professionals, and as a founding member of the Planning Committee for Accounting Day San Diego, the largest local for-profit training event for the accounting profession.

Thomas is one of those rare people who innately recognizes that leadership is about bringing out the best in others.  He continues upon his responsibility of managing and mentoring San Diego office staff, and also invests his own time into thinking about the future of the firm and of the profession.  He believes that there is nothing more rewarding than helping clients do great things; it’s a process that Thomas feels honored to participate in.  The Baker Tilly team share Thomas’ operating values (ethics, quality, valuing people and continuous learning), allowing him to do what he loves while exercising his entrepreneurial spirit.

Thomas is a graduate of National University and is planning to commence advance coursework in the near future.  He has a passion for higher education and for teaching and would love to ultimately explore the opportunity to teach.
