Program History

The Global Studies Program began as a minor in 2007 and began offering a B.A. degree in 2010/2011 after its approval by the Chancellor's office in Fall 2009. Since its inception, the Global Studies curriculum has been delivered by offering a combination of GBST-prefix courses; strategically-selected, departmentally-based courses supported by Global Studies funds; and departmentally-based courses which meet individual department as well as Global Studies major requirements.  Beginning in Fall 2015, the Global Studies Program became the Department of Global Studies and has its first assigned faculty.  The Department also continues the tradition of guidance through an interdisciplinary steering committee made up of faculty around the College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences.
