Scam Emails

Email provides us a convenient and powerful communications tool. Unfortunately, it also provides scammers and other malicious individuals an easy means for luring potential victims. The scams they attempt run from old-fashioned bait-and-switch operations to phishing schemes using a combination of email and bogus web sites to trick victims into divulging sensitive information. To protect yourself from these scams, you should understand what they are, what they look like, how they work, and what you can do to avoid them (From US-CERT).

In order to help educate you on these common scams we at InfoSec have created the following two sections, "Fake Jobs" and "Phishing". In these sections we have provided examples of emails that students have recieved, tips on how to recognize these scams on your own, and the information on what to do if you encounter these emails.

If you have any further questions about these topics that you feel weren't clarified in these sections, then please contact InfoSec at infosec@csusm.edu.
