Outreach

As part of our NSF-ABI's outreach program, we organized a workshop on introducing bioinformatics, genomics, and basics of programming for highschool teachers, in collaboration with TUTeach. The first version of our week-long workshop was successfully launched in Summer 2017, with 8 groups of participants working on collaboratively creating workable lesson plans for their highschool classrooms.

Through days 1-4, instructors (Dr. Jody Hey, Dr. Arun Sethuraman, and Dr. Andrew Webb) presented introductory/hands-on material on:

  1. Programming (Python) basics
  2. Genomic ancestry,
  3. Using genomics to inform medicine
  4. The scope/future of computer programming in biology. All these lessons/material are now available here (organized by days).
