Seated/Standing Ergonomic Posture

­Seated Posture

  • Keep monitor arms length (18” – 24”) from screen.
  • Eyes should be positioned anywhere within the upper third of monitor.
  • Head should be kept straight and level.
  • Keep shoulders relaxed.
  • Elbows are to be maintained at a 90 degree angle while typing.
  • Back is fully engaged with the chair’s backrest.
  • Maintain a 2-3 finger gap between legs and front edge of chair seat.
  • Utilize a footrest to keep feet flat.
  • Avoid the use of Stability Balls in lieu of a standard ergonomic chair.

­Standing Posture

  • Keep monitor arms length (18” – 24”) from screen.
  • Eyes should be positioned anywhere within the upper third of monitor.
  • Head should be kept straight and level.
  • Keep shoulders relaxed.
  • Elbows are to be maintained at a 90 degree angle while typing.
  • Back is fully engaged with the chair’s backrest.
  • Utilize an Anti-Fatigue Mat if standing for more than 20 minutes.

Keep in mind the 20-8-2 rule

  • Sit or stand for 20 minutes, then…
  • Sit or stand for 8 minutes, and...
  • Walk-around for at least 2 minutes.
