FAQs

Below are some of the most commonly asked questions about SI from students. If you have any other questions that are not addressed here please contact us and we will be happy to assist you.

  • What is the role of an SI Leader?

The role of an SI leader is to provide students with out of class, voluntary, peer-directed review sessions to help them succeed in their historically difficult courses. Their role is to facilitate student to student interactions and enhance learning strategies for students.

  • When are SI sessions held?

During the first week, surveys are sent out to pick the best available time for students. The SI Leader will notify the class by the second week of the semester with the selected times.

You can also refer to the SI schedule to keep track of any updates or changes!

  • How do I know if SI is offered in my class?

Typically, the SI leader will introduce themselves at the beginning of the semester via email or first class. However, we do have a complete list of the courses supported this semester.

  • Does it require extra work? (for the student)
No, it does not. Each study session almost counts as an hour that you would already use to study for that class.
  • Why should I attend?

SI has many benefits! Every SI Leader is a student who has recently taken and succeeded in the course. They’ve been trained to plan each session with activities and material geared to help every student. As a student, you will also get to collaborate with and help other students who are taking the course.

  • How does it work?

As a student taking the course, you can attend as many sessions as you would like. Each session is planned by the SI Leader based on their experience and student feedback.

Currently, all sessions are held on Microsoft Teams. Each CSUSM student has access by signing in with their Cougar email. Remember to remove “cougars” from the address (ex: student001@csusm.edu). Please refer to our "How to Acesss SI Sessions" tab on the left side for more information.
