Vision Statement

We will change the face of Speech-Language Pathology through inclusion, diversity, and equity. We will set the precedent of diversity in the SLP world by elevating awareness and taking righteous action.

Mission Statement

The Department of Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) at CSUSM seeks to promote inclusion, diversity, and equity within the field of SLP by engaging with our student body, faculty, alumni, clients, SLP, and other community professionals. It is our belief that there is strength in the intersectionality among cultures, ethnicity, gender identity, abilities, and socio-economic status within the field. Our student organization aspires to engage and take action by promoting awareness through guest speakers/workshops, resources, outreach, mentorship, and access to education within campus and the community culture. Through these actions and initiatives, we strive to increase the number of SLPs from racially diverse backgrounds to adequately represent the diverse populations we serve. Our aim is to maintain our clients’ best interests as they receive equitable services across all settings. Additionally, we strive to combat systemic racism by raising awareness of our profession among minoritized communities.
